What an absolutely jam-packed last two weeks of term it has been.I am delighted to let you know that we raised £229 for Comic Relief- thank you to all of you who donated generously to this worthy cause.
It was the last matches of the Callington football league and our team had a great evening where they won a match and then lost one. I was very impressed with their sporting behaviour and superb teamwork.
The Reception class visited Ferry Farm at Calstock last week and had an amazing time meeting a whole host of interesting animals.
This week we were visited by Plymouth Argyle, featuring some of their players, including one of the trainers who is an ex pupil of Delaware. Pilgrim Pete also made in an appearance. Pupils from Y3 to Y6 wore Green mulfti and raised £40 for Project 35 which supports families living in poverty in Plymouth.
Miss Owen and Mrs Birkenshaw accompanied some of our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils to Songfest. They represented our schools so well and really enjoyed the experience.
This week we also had Ofsted at the Infant ands Nursery School to check that we are still a good school. Once the report is published we will share the findings with you. I want to publicly thank all of the staff and pupils for showing the school at its absolute best.
Finally, some of our Y4 pupils took part in the Bridge Schools Alternative Sports Day which took place at Looe Primary Academy. Mrs Hannaford accompanied them and the amazing news is that we won the competition! What a perfect end to the spring term! I wish you all a restful Easter holidays with your fantastic children.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you Copper Valley Infant and Nursery Academy website. I hope that you will enjoy the opportunity to discover more about us, our wonderful staff and amazing children!
Copper Valley Infant and Nursery Academy stands on ground was previously known as ‘Delaware Primary Academy’. During COVID, both Delaware and Gunnislake Academies merged, to form a hub. This worked well due to both schools being part of Bridge Schools Trust and overseen by the same Headteacher and Local Governing Body. As COVID began to diminish, we re-configured our Academies. Working alongside the DfE and local community, we have been operating with infants plus years 3 and 4 on one site (previously known as Delaware) and years 5 and 6 on another site (Gunnislake). With improved outcomes and a thirst for maintaining this arrangement, Copper Valley emerged in Spring/Summer 2024. We thank our wonderful community for their involvement and support with this process, including choosing the name, based on the area being a world leader in copper mining in the 1800s.
At Copper Valley we work, in partnership with parents and carers, to offer pupils a high standard of education which will enable each child to reach their full potential. We aim to nurture the children in our care, providing them with a safe environment and stimulating learning opportunities where they can begin their journey of life-long learning.
We value each and every child as a unique, special individual. We nurture their talents and interests, §and each member of staff prides themselves on the warm, respectful relationships they have with the children. We only have three rules at Copper Valley. Be kind. Be focused. Be respectful. What more do you need to be an amazing learner and human being!
Our learning environments are spacious and interactive. Pupils at Copper Valley are proud to share their learning with all stakeholders. We pride ourselves on the friendly happy atmosphere that we have created.
We begin the learning journey at Copper Valley with children from the age of two who attend our beautiful nursery. When pupils reach Year 5, they transition to our Upper Key Stage 2 base which is located further down the valley in Gunnislake village. This move gives pupils a calm, highly focused end to their Primary education and valuable experience of transition before they move on to Key Stage 3!
We are proud to have been a member of the Bridge Trust family of schools since December 2015 and actively embrace the Trust’s values and motto of our Academies being ‘Stronger Together’.
Should you wish to arrange a visit to see personally what we can offer you and your children then please do not hesitate to call either school base to arrange a visit, you are sure to receive a warm welcome.
